In the name of science, an international team of researchers creates a deadly virus capable of killing untold millions. While the U.S. government quietly stockpiles a vaccine, a militaristic group of doomsday preppers begins to mobilize in response to the economic collapse they're convinced is coming.

Sasha McCandless has put danger and intrigue behind her to focus on her blessedly unexciting commercial litigation practice and couldn't be further removed from the escalating tension. That is, until her boyfriend, Leo Connelly, the new chief security officer for the vaccine manufacturer, discovers someone's been looting the cache.

Then the Doomsday virus is stolen and a researcher is murdered. Sasha and Leo have just three days to prevent the release of the ultimate biochemical weapon. Sasha's saved her share of innocent lives in the past. But this time can she really save the world?

This is the best one yet. I bought it the day it came out and moaned because I had to go to work instead of read! The "Flu" was so real and I caught myself holding my breath when things got reallly scary. I love the way Leo and Sasha work so well together and argue very different points of view. Every book has brought more life to the characters. I would recommend this series to any mystery lover and especially those of us who love the "legal side" of mystery. GREAT READ
The author is really neat person who interacts with us on Facebook and lets us know how things are going and how long the wait will be for the next one.

Indispensable Party Sasha McCandless Legal Thriller Book 4 (Audible Audio Edition) Melissa F Miller Karen Commins Books Reviews

A little while back I stumbled onto the first book of this series and I have not quit reading until now as I have exhausted all of the available volumes....oh, drat! I read for the pleasure of excapism, and good literature is hard to find...that which you can believe and almost feel a part, while spinning the plot in your mind to "guess" the upcoming happenings. Sasha and Leo, the rest of the home team have done such...they are believable and captivating without being over the top, they have a relationship without being lewd, and ... the storyline rocks. I cannot wait for the next edition/addition.
This was an excellent read. However, I wish the antagonist/killer was not a prepper. I'm not a prepper, but I hope most people don't think of them as deranged. I just consider them well prepared for a survivable event. Being a survivalist now with Obama's latest geopolitical nightmare that lifted sanctions in Iran and gave Iranians nuclear capabilities sounds fairly intelligent.

The deadly event in this book deals with a nearly unsurvivable manmade flu virus. Two pharmaceutical companies want the government contract. So far, only one company that has developed a vaccine has a contract for just enough to give to Washington power brokers and military personnel. Hmm. Sounds right and frightening. The other pharma has developed a antiviral medication to treat people who get sick and increase their odds of survival. Someone has stolen the virus from the Pasteur Institute, and someone has also stolen several hundred doses of the vaccine. I recommend this well written thriller. 💜

Note to author Ms. Miller, I think more men would read your series if you included Joe's name in the title. Just my opinion.😉
So far, I've read two of Miller's books - this one and "Irreparable Harm". They're both very well written and well worth your time.
But one thing confuses me. Miller claims to be a Pittsburgh native, as am I. She writes much detail about the locale. But she's usually wrong.
In "Irreparable Harm", she describes the characters' drive from the US Steel Building downtown, to Sewickley, far out in the northwestern suburbs. She gives a turn-by-turn account of a 20 mile drive. Except that it's impossible to do it the way she writes it. You simply can not turn right off of the Parkway West and land on the Fort Duquesne Bridge. It can't happen. And every Pittsburgher knows it. So either use the correct directions, or don't go into that much detail. If you're not from Pittsburgh, you don't know the difference, and if you are it's just irritating.
So WHY write it wrong? It adds nothing to the story.

In "Indispensable Party", she claims that nearby New Kensington, Montour, and Oil City are "old steel towns". They are not. Not one of them ever saw a steel mill. Again, every PIttsburgher knows it. McKeesport, Homestead, Rankin, Braddock, Clairton, and Duquesne are all steel towns. So why not use those names in her plot?
Again, if you're not from Pittsburgh, you don't know the difference, and if you are it's just irritating.
So WHY write it wrong? It adds nothing to the story.

I don't get it.
I will read more of her books, but Pittsburghers be warned.
"If the virus is here and it gets released, how bad is it going to be?” Sasha asked.
“Worse than you can imagine. End of the world bad,” Connelly answered.

Sasha has returned to her practice as a civil litigator in Pittsburg, PA and Connelly is Serumceutical’s chief of security outside Washington D.C. They are trying to spend weekends away from everyday life in a rented lake house where they can forget about work. The idea was to spend time together, away from their respective jobs. They are trying to make their long-distance relationship work so the time spent at the lake is meant to be their "private time". The house is located in a lake resort half-way between Pittsburg and Washington, D.C.

One Friday night, Connelly gets a telephone call and has to drive back to his office (3 hours away) for an emergency meeting regarding corporate espionage; that is all Grace, his second in command, will tell him on the telephone. He convinces Sasha to accompany him on the road trip rather than miss her during the six hours he would be driving.

It turns out that scientific researchers have developed a deadly virus that will kill hundreds of millions of people (with the full knowledge of the federal government) -- and the government is quietly stockpiling vaccines.

The race is on to stop the vials of the virus from being released, killing millions leading to food, gas and water shortages. Sasha and Connelly must win this round or life, as we know it, will change forever.

Mix into the storyline some doomsday preppers who are gearing up because they want to be prepared for the catastrophic after affects of the virus once it has been released. They steal (with some inside help) and stock up on vaccines so they can all be immunized before the virus is released. They also have stolen a container of the Doomsday virus. They have set up a remote camp where they are stockpiling water, non-perisable foods, emergency first aid kits, survival kits -- and guns.

Ms. Miller has written another 5-star book with a story that could be taken directly from today's world headlines. The story moves along at a decent pace and there are plenty twists and turns to keep the reader interested and entertained.

I highly recommend this series and I am looking forward to read the next book in the series -- Lovers and Madmen -- a Sasha McCandless Legal Thrillers novella.
